Rachael Vance is an Australian, Berlin-based writer and curator with over fifteen years’ experience working in art museums and managing commercial art galleries. She completed a Masters of Art Theory & Design at Monash University, Melbourne. In 2009 she was selected for the Gertrude Contemporary Emerging Writers Program with mentor Professor Charles Green from The University of Melbourne. In 2007 and 2011 she was awarded two Australia Council for the Arts research grants to travel to Europe.
In 2011 Rachael was selected as a 'Key Australian Arts Ambassador' by the Goethe Institut, Australia which led her to purse career opportunities in Germany. In 2019, she curated the solo exhibition “Denkmal” by Brook Andrew at the Australian Embassy in Berlin, Germany. In 2012, she was invited to guest curate a group exhibition at Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts, Melbourne as part of the Innovators Program. Her previous positions include: Gallery Director, Galerie Cinzia Friedlaender, Berlin; Curatorial Assistant (Exhibitions), Ian Potter Museum of Art, The University of Melbourne, Melbourne; Gallery Manager, Karen Woodbury Gallery, Melbourne; Museum Assistant, Monash University Museum of Art, Melbourne.
In addition to writing exhibition catalogue essays for public museums and commercial galleries, Rachael has contributed to art publications and periodicals that include: Art & Australia, Art Monthly, Art New Zealand, Artist Profile, Broadsheet: Contemporary Visual Art and Culture, Objektiv, RAVEN Contemporary, and Sleek. She holds the position of European correspondent for Ocula Magazine and has interviewed artists such as: Gillian Wearing, Camille Henrot, Laure Prouvost, Tacita Dean, Elmgreen & Dragset, Francis Upritchard and Secundino Hernandez.
